LJ Richards, Oceanside Longboard Surfing Club Honoree
This year the Oceanside Longboard Surfing Club honored LJ Richards with a lifetime achievement award. The award was handcrafted by John Cherry and presented by Bing Cosby and Guy Takayama in the bandshell at the 33rd Annual OLSC Contest and Beach Festival.
LJ is a long time member of the club. One of the original members of the Oceanside Surf Club in 1954. He is an amazing surfer and waterman winning the West Coast Championships in 1963, followed by a second place finish in the United States Invitational the following year. We are stoked to have LJ as a member of our club and a huge part of the legacy for the OLSC!
It was a wonderful honor to be recognized by the OLSC at the annual club contest. Special thanks to Bing, Guy, Jim, Gretchen, Steve and everyone else involved in this awesome event. Mahalo to Jeff for the marvelous job on the T-Shirts and Program. Also a big shout out to John Cherry for the beautiful fin, a true piece of art. I’ve been a proud member of the OLSC since 1954. It’s been fun to see the club grow over the years. Congratulations to the team for such a fine performance! A heartfelt thank you and keep surfing!
